Cowbell Brewing successfully transitioned from manual palletizing to an automated solution using Synapse Pro. This compact, collaborative system resolved their space flexibility constraints with an on-site, customer-deployed setup that can be torn down in under 30 minutes. The investment delivered an 11-month ROI, eliminated logistics fines from the Ontario Beer store, and allowed the business to productively relocate 2 FTEs.

The Challenge

Before implementing automation, palletizing operations at Cowbell Brewing were being performed entirely manually. The company faced constraints regarding workspace layout and required an automation option that could accommodate their specific use-of-space flexibility needs without taking over the plant floor permanently. Furthermore, manual stacking risked stability errors, which could lead to the Ontario Beer store returning improperly stacked pallets along with costly logistics fines.

The Solution

To address these hurdles, Cowbell Brewing implemented Synapse Pro, a collaborative and compact robot palletizing solution designed to address the customer's use-of-space flexibility needs. The compact system was seamlessly assembled on-site and directly deployed by the customer. Rather than requiring a permanent fixtures footprint, the collaborative nature and compact design of the palletizer significantly reduce its active footprint while in operation. The system is highly adaptable, allowing operations to quickly set up and tear down the hardware multiple times a week depending on immediate production demands.

KEY FEATURES

<30 Minute Tear Down and Setup Time:

Allows for flexible use of the end-of-line space by allowing the system to be rapidly dismantled and reconfigured.

Singular Configuration Path Planning:

Reduces the overall size of the arm needed to service the work volume by intelligently planning paths through singular configurations.

Collaborative and Compact Architecture:

Minimizes the physical footprint required on the floor while the system is actively in operation.

Robotic Stacking Precision:

Stacks pallets with automated accuracy, improving load stability and eliminating returned pallets or fine structural risks.

RESULTS

Deploying the Synapse Pro palletizing solution yielded excellent operational and financial returns for Cowbell Brewing, achieving a complete return on investment (ROI) in 11 months. By automating the end-of-line process, the company successfully eliminated pallet re-works and costly logistics fines from the Ontario Beer store caused by improper manual stacking. The efficiency gains allowed the brewery to strategically relocate 2 FTEs away from manual labor. Operationally, the system delivers exceptional space flexibility, with staff setting up and tearing down the equipment 2 to 3 times a week to optimize the work volume.
